#EMF5. Vera I. Zabotkina. "Essential skills for academic success". Day 1



Vera I. Zabotkina reported on the difference in Russian and English academic writing traditions.

The speaker represented TRIPLE I approach to Modern Education=>
Research:
  • Interdisciplinary,
  • International,
  • Intersectoral,
  • Intergenerational.
Traditional model of generation and transfer of knowledge consists of
  • Monodisciplinary,
  • Honogenerous,
  • Hierarchical.
Vera I. Zabotkina paid a great attention to strong and weak points of higher education.
Then she covered Structure of  Paragraphs in different languages: English, Semitic Languages, Oriental Languages, Russian, Romance languages.
Vera considered that 'English is a completely writer-responsible language.
Russian, Chinese and Japanese are reader-responsible languages.' 
"What makes the paragraph?" asked Vera and explained => "These are lengh (12-15 lines), coherence, topic sentences".
